lots of gem questions! please help 
I love gems and recently started collecting them. But now I have a lot of questions...
1. what is a 1ct ruby worth?
2. what is 1ct spinel worth?
3. what is a 1ct sapphire worth? (how about a 35ct sapphire? it's solid blue...)
4. what is the difference between Zircon and Cubic zirconium (or whatever that's called)
5. what is ROUGH sapphires, rubies, spinel, zircon, tourmaline, amethyst, apatite and peridot worth?
6. how much does it cost to get a rough gem cut?
7. how could I polish these rough gems?
Any answers, help or advice is greatly appreciated!
It depends on the quality and the nature of the ruby.
You can get a 1 carat lab created ruby (it is a real ruby, just man made) that looks really nice for under $50.
For natural rubies, it depends on how pretty and saturated and bright the red color is, how clear it is and how well cut (in that order)
For the highest quality "investment grade" ruby, you would spend several thousands of dollars -depending on the source where you bought it- even $10,000.
You can get a lower end natural (heat treated of course -most all rubies are) one for under $200 probably. Ebay has some good deals.
And of course, a 1/2 carat ruby of the same quality will be less expensive. It will be less than half the price, because not only is the material less, but 1/2 carat rubies are also less rare.
